Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Extension is offering an introductory course on preparing grant proposals. The workshops will be held in eight communities around the state this spring:

  • Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Center, 1900 E. Main Street, Danville, IN 46122, February 21 and March 21

  • Putnam County Fairgrounds, 191 US-231, Greencastle, IN 46135, March 8 and April 12
  • Purdue Extension-Marion County, 1202 East 38th Street, Discovery Hall Suite 201, Indianapolis, IN 46205, March 10 and April 14
  • Purdue Extension-Tipton County, 1200 S. Main Street, Tipton, IN 46072, March 16 and April 20
  • Purdue Extension-Harrison County, 247 Atwood Street, Corydon, IN 47122, April 11 and May 2
  • Purdue Extension-Tippecanoe County, 3150 Sagamore Parkway South, Lafayette, IN 47905, April 20 and May 18

The Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing Workshop teaches grant writers of all skill levels how to prepare and submit a professional proposal. The two-day interactive workshops take place from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM local time on both days listed above.

During the workshop, participants develop their ideas into written proposals. They learn about how to find funders as well as strategies for successful grant implementation. “Over the years, participants of the Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing workshop have gone on to win millions of dollars in grant funding, bringing vital programs and services, equipment, infrastructure, and amenities to communities all across Indiana,” said Kris Parker, Regional Community Development Educator with Purdue Extension.

Registration is $175 per person and includes a workbook, reference materials and lunch both days. Professional review of a draft proposal is also included.

Master Gardener Basic Training @ Grant County Fairgrounds
May 2 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

The 2017 Master Gardener Class will begin February 21, 2017. Classes will meet every first and third Tuesday from 9:30 am – 4:15 pm. The cost is $125.00 for individuals and $175.00 for couples. Registration deadline is January 31,2017.

Onsite registration and music begins at 5:00 p.m.
Walk begins at 7:00 p.m.
If you are pre-registered, you do NOT have to “check in” at registration the day of the event.

Walk begins at the corner of Washington and Spencer, home of our corporate sponsor, Riverside Community Federal Credit Union. Line up for the Walk will be along Washington Street and First Street. Closing ceremony will also take place here.

The Walk of Hope is to SUPPORT the fighters, CELEBRATE the survivors, and HONOR those we’ve lost. “Walking together so no one walks alone!” The Walk is approximately one mile. All proceeds from the event benefit Cancer Services and our mission to help people facing cancer in Gant County. We are a LOCAL organization that helps LOCAL people.

Register online now, or in our office at 305 South Norton Avenue in Marion. Cost is $5 per person (adult, youth, angel) now through March 31. Price increases to $8 per person (adult and youth) on April 1st. Price for Angels will remain $5. Register a loved one who has passed and we will release a balloon with their name on it during our closing ceremony. Cut off for the biggest team competition is May 2nd at 4:00 p.m. Teams may join together through March 31st. No teams will be permitted to join together to form a bigger team after the March 31st deadline.

Parking will be available in the YMCA parking lot and at Ballard Field. A shuttle will run between Ballard Field and downtown Marion before and after the Walk.

First Light Child Advocacy Center Superhero Spectacular @ Matter Park

We are excited to announce the return of our 5K Fundraiser! You can be a real life hero for kids when you suit up as your favorite superhero and run, walk, or bike with us on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Matter Park.

You can use your superpowers to: Run a 5k, walk 2 miles, or bike 10 miles. Awards will be given for top finishers in each event and raffle prizes will be given randomly.

Race Day Registration: $30
Kids 12 & Under: FREE
Teams of 5+ receive $5/person discount

100 Good Men is a community awareness initiative focused on the importance of healthy men in the lives of our children, families and communities.  We call on the community to recognize 100 Good Men (And more with each year) those who:

Do you know a good man you want to nominate? Starting Monday, May 14th you can nominate up to 4 good men for $100! Their name will appear in the Chronicle Tribune on Father’s day as well as be recognized on the Family Service Society Website! What  a great Father’s Day present. More information on this initiative to come.
