bradfordNorma L. Bradford, 88, went through the pearly gates of Heaven to meet her Lord and Savior, with her granddaughter, Amy, by her side, on Jan. 5, 2012.

Mrs. Bradford was born on Jan. 2, 1925 in Logan County, Ill. She was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Martha E. (Dickison) Thompson.

Her family moved to Marion when she was 4 and then returned to Illinois. Mrs. Bradford was a 1943 graduate of Beason High School, Beason, Ill. In 1947 she graduated from Ball State University as a registered nurse.

Later she was trained to be an anesthetist nurse. Her nursing career included being a nurse cadet with the veteran’s hospital in Marion. She also worked for Marion General Hospital and retired in 1989 from VA Northern Indiana Health Care Systems.

After she retired she was a volunteer at Marion General Hospital. On March 16, 1958 she married Robert L. Bradford. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2002.

In her free time she enjoyed square dancing, clogging, and traveling. She most remembered her trip to Italy and the Cayman Islands. She was a member of the former First Assembly of God Church and attended Hillside Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Bradford loved her family and spending time with them. She will always be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her wit and charm and the love she showed everyone. The family would like to extend special gratitude to York House for the love and care Norma was given while she was a resident.

She is survived by one son, Fred A. (Barbara A.) Bradford, Jonesboro; one granddaughter, Amy R. (Brent P.) Ramey, Gas City; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn R. Ramey, Gas City; one sister, Wyanzia M. McCray Chadd, Marion; two sisters-in-law, Idabella Thompson, Marion, and Peggy Bradford, Florida; brothers-in-law, Alan (Margaret) Hinkle, Marion, and Roger (Margaret) Hinkle, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, John A. Thompson, Hermas B. Thompson, Heskie L. Thompson, Eskie Thompson and Wayne Thompson; and three sisters, Ada M. Bost, Addie Thompson and Beulah O. Thompson.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 in Hillside Wesleyan Church, 2510 S. Home Ave., Marion, with Pastor Gary Bingham, the Rev. Duane Thompson, II and Darrell Thompson officiating. Mrs. Bradford will be interred beside her husband in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 S. Washington St., and from 10 a.m. until services on Wednesday at the church.
