Fund Purpose:
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to Grant or Miami County residents who have graduated from Grant or Miami County high schools and are pursuing an education in physical science, math, or medicine.

Fund Story:
Edith Files and her late husband John have long held the belief that education is the keystone of keeping the American Dream going. By directing financial help to students with an interest in the fields of math, sciences, and medicine, the recipient’s opportunities improve. Edith believes that supporting students going into those fields will, in turn, allow them to help others.

Edith set up a scholarship fund in 2010 to complete the goal she and John had. The fund is new, but Edith hopes to assist many Grant County students in continuing their secondary education.

Edith has been a resident of Miami County since 1951. John was a teacher of math, chemistry, and physics at Day Township School, Miami County. In 1953, he joined RCA in Marion as a research and development engineer and remained with the corporation until he retired in 1979. Edith is a nurse and worked at the VA Hospital Davis Clinic. The couple received their education at a state-funded university Indiana State at Terre Haute.
